Passing score

TOGAF 9 Part 1 Exam (the exam for TOGAF 9 Foundation): "Pass score: 60% (24 out of 40 questions)" and "The pass mark is 60% (24 or more questions out of a maximum of 40)" (official TOGAF Examinations datasheet, copyright 2023-2025). CONFLICT: in the TOGAF 9 Combined Part 1 and Part 2 exam the Part 1 section pass mark is "55%, which means 22 or more points out of maximum of 40 points", and the Open Group's Credly badge text for TOGAF 9 Foundation still says 55%.

Pass score vs pass rate

Two different numbers that get mixed up constantly.

Pass score (cut score)

The scaled score the vendor publishes. For the TOGAF 9 Foundation it is 60%. This is the number you can actually prepare against, and it is the one that decides your result on exam day.

Pass rate (percentage of candidates)

The share of candidates who pass. The Open Group generally does not publish this for individual exams, and the numbers you find online usually come from candidate self-reported surveys. We would rather tell you nothing than tell you a figure we cannot source.

Where you lose points

The exam is not scored flat. Each domain carries its own weight, so a domain where you lose everything can sink a score that looks fine on paper.

Enterprise Continuum15%

Losing this domain entirely costs you 15% of the exam, and it has 6 practice questions here.

TOGAF Reference Model10%

Losing this domain entirely costs you 10% of the exam, and it has 4 practice questions here.

Architecture Content Framework25%

Losing this domain entirely costs you 25% of the exam, and it has 10 practice questions here.

Architecture Development Method (ADM)35%

Losing this domain entirely costs you 35% of the exam, and it has 14 practice questions here.

Architecture Governance, Views, and Building Blocks15%

Losing this domain entirely costs you 15% of the exam, and it has 6 practice questions here.

The practical version: the TOGAF 9 Foundation is not passed by knowing most of the content. It is passed by being strong in the domains that carry weight, and by not leaving one of them empty.
