Study plan
How to Pass the ACE: L4 (Cloud Engineer: Level 4) Exam
A study plan for the ACE: L4 (Cloud Engineer: Level 4) certification exam, built from the official domain weights instead of a generic template. Recommended approach: 1) Study Arista official documentation and whitepapers (VXLAN, EVPN, CloudVision). 2) Complete Arista's online training modules. 3) Hands-on labs using virtual Arista vEOS or physical hardware. 4) Practice automation with Python and Ansible. 5) Join study groups and review sample questions. Allocate 3–4 months of dedicated preparation.
- 5 domains
- 150 questions
- 300 min
- 80% to pass
Study in weight order, not topic order
The plan below follows the official blueprint weights, so the order of study is the order that returns the most points.
- 1
Cloud Infrastructure Design
25%- Virtual network architectures (VXLAN, EVPN)
- Multi-tenant designs
- Cloud connectivity (AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Network segmentation and security zones
45 practice questions tagged to this domain.
- 2
Security and Compliance
20%- Zero Trust network principles
- Cloud security policies (MACsec, ACLs)
- Compliance frameworks (SOC2, PCI-DSS)
- Secure multi-cloud interconnects
31 practice questions tagged to this domain.
- 3
Automation and Orchestration
20%- CloudVision and Arista Automation Framework
- Ansible, Terraform for cloud provisioning
- CI/CD pipeline integration
- Scripting with Python and REST APIs
33 practice questions tagged to this domain.
- 4
Cloud Operations and Monitoring
20%- Network telemetry and analytics (CloudVision Telemetry)
- Log analysis and troubleshooting
- Performance monitoring and capacity planning
- Incident response in cloud environments
30 practice questions tagged to this domain.
- 5
Advanced Troubleshooting and Optimization
15%- Packet analysis and debugs
- Latency and throughput optimization
- Routing protocol convergence in cloud
- Cloud migration strategies and validation
11 practice questions tagged to this domain.
Three phases, in order
Most failures are process failures, not knowledge failures.
Phase 1 — Learn the high-weight domains
Start where the points are. The first domains on this plan carry the most weight, so a gap there costs the most. Cover the objectives, then close each topic with practice questions you actually get wrong.
Phase 2 — Close the mid-weight domains
The middle of the blueprint is where most candidates plateau. These domains are worth less per topic than the first phase, but they add up fast, and they are the usual difference between a near miss and a clear pass.
Phase 3 — Timed full mocks
Stop reading new material at this point. Run full-length exams under the real time limit and the real format, and use the per-domain breakdown to find which domain is still costing you the pass.
Where we put the emphasis
Certilum positions ACE L4 as a career accelerator. Our practice exams validate mastery of Arista’s cloud ecosystem through scenario‑based questions on scalability and programmability. Diagnostic feedback bridges the gap between theory and exam readiness – no live projects.
The order matters less than the loop. Every domain you finish should end with questions you got wrong, because the mistake is the only thing you actually needed to study. On the ACE: L4 (Cloud Engineer: Level 4) that loop is worth 20% of the exam in the first block alone.
