Project & Product Management certifications, compared
Forty-eight certifications, the largest catalogue on this site, and a market that has reorganised itself around three distinct bodies of knowledge: agile delivery, product ownership, and service management. The names all sound interchangeable from the outside. The exams are not.
Agile delivery versus product ownership
These two families get confused constantly because both come from the agile world and both are held by people whose titles say "product" or "delivery". But they test opposite halves of the same system. A delivery certification validates your ability to execute a cadence: planning a sprint, facilitating the events, managing the board and the backlog mechanically. A product ownership certification validates your ability to decide what to build: defining value, ordering the backlog by outcome, and holding the vision against competing pressure.
The telling detail is in how the exams are built. Delivery-oriented credentials are increasingly scenario-driven and operational. Product-oriented credentials are almost always multiple choice with a heavy emphasis on precise framework vocabulary, because the framework defines the accountability and the test is whether you can recognise it in the wild.
Service management is the third pillar
ITIL sits apart and deserves its own decision. It is a framework rather than a practice, its exams are less scenario-based, and its value is strongest in large organisations and regulated environments where service management is a formal function with budget behind it. Outside that context the signal is weaker.
Volume follows the job title, not the difficulty
The demand data here is the most skewed of any category on this site. The dominant credential has many times the search volume of the one right below it, and the top of the list is not the most difficult exam available. That is worth internalising before you choose: the most-searched credential is the one with the largest addressable job market, and difficulty and demand are not the same axis.
